MKI Tone Bender
A recreation of the 1965 Sola Sound Tone Bender MKI - the first iteration of the Tone Bender family and a refinement of the earlier FZ-1 fuzz circuit. The circuit is fairly aggressive but retains a distinctly vintage voice with a surprising amount clarity and note definition that shines through, even with chords. The MKI also exhibits a unique gating effect that is particularly prominent in the lower registers and with higher output pickups. Although the controls are simple, the circuit is quite reactive to different pickup and amplifier combinations and a range of tones can be found by balancing the amplifier preamp volume with the output volume on the pedal. If you dig “Zeppelin I” tones the MKI has it in spades!
