DIY: Rangemaster Treble Booster
Everything you need to build your own germanium Rangemaster
No expense spared in selecting parts for this build. Each transistor set is tested for gain / leakage and auditioned with a breadboard and amplifier to ensure authentic response and character.
Built around the same eyelet board construction and premium components used in our custom pedals, these kits are designed to deliver both an exceptional fuzz and a rewarding build experience.
Every kit includes a detailed build document featuring clear diagrams, step-by-step instructions, and build photos, along with direct support if questions come up during the build. For builders looking to go deeper, the documentation includes a supplemental section covering circuit analysis, circuit history, and a range of classic mods inspired by vintage and boutique variants like the Cesar Diaz Texas Ranger.
INCLUDED
Instructions to build the Rangemaster Treble Booster
Germanium transistor
Vintage film capacitors and carbon comp resistors
Pre-drilled / powder coated enclosure
Alpha pots
Vintage style jacks
FK footswitch
Eyelet board
LED / metal bezel
Knobs
9V power jack (internal battery version available by request)
TRANSISTOR OPTIONS
1970’s Soviet UFO - soviet made military spec transistors with medium gain and low noise. These transistors are on the warmer side of this list.
1974 Texas Instruments mil spec - an all around solid option with medium-high gain. Bright and articulate.
Texas Instruments CV series - mid 60’s UK made medium gain transistor. One of the warmest and most unique transistors on this list.
New Market NKT - early 60’s New Market transistor highly regarded for its balance of articulation and warmth.
Mullard black glass OC45 - a close cousin of the Mullard OC44 transistor used in the original 1960’s Dallas Arbiter units. Closest in sound and spec to the original Mullard OC44.
