Build Your Own: Rangemaster Treble Booster
Everything you need to build your own Dallas Arbiter Rangemaster Treble Booster w/ EQ switch
In 1965 Dallas Arbiter began producing an amp top circuit that enhanced the upper-mid and treble frequencies of the guitar. The circuit focuses the signal in the vocal range, providing the perfect colored boost to push the front end of a tube amplifier or stack with your favorite overdrive. This version includes a toggle switch for three shades of treble boost. The center toggle position engages the stock capacitor value used in the original units. Two additional settings provide an “upper mid” and “mid” boost setting. Notable users include Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Rory Gallagher, and Brian May.
No expense spared in selecting parts for this build. Each transistor set is meticulously tuned with an amp and breadboard to sound true to the original. The 50’s style eyelet board layout and quality components will ensure this circuit will be blowing out your eardrums for years to come! The build document includes a parts list, detailed layout diagrams, and step-by-step instructions with pictures. There is also a supplemental overview of popular boutique modifications, vintage variations like the Diaz Texas Ranger, and circuit analysis for those who wish to take a deeper dive and explore the inner workings of these classic circuits.
