Tone Bender MK1.5 / Tone Bender MKII
A dual Tone Bender featuring two classic Sola Sound circuits from the year 1966.
This circuit serves as a snap shot in the evolution of the Tone Bender circuit. The 1965 Sola Sound MK1.5 is a vast departure from the original MKI circuit featuring a refined two transistor design with less gain and a more nuanced fuzz tone than its predecessor. Where the MKI is distinct and aggressive, the MK1.5 responds to subtle changes in guitar volume and delivers a range of classic lower to medium gain fuzz tones. The 1966 MKII is the follow up to the MK1.5 featuring a 3-transistor design heavily inspired by the MK1.5, but with some tweaks to the bias and EQ of the circuit, as well as an added gain stage at the input to drive the signal into more aggressive clipping. In practice, the MKII is a heavily modified 3-transistor incarnation of the MK1.5 with more gain and sustain. In reality, the MKII is its own thing.
The MK1.5 channel is an authentic reproduction of the Sola Sound MK1.5 Tone Bender featuring a versatile two transistor design with an added external bias control that modifies the clean-up and character of the fuzz. The MKII channel is a faithful recreation of the three transistor MKII Tone Bender with an added 3-way EQ switch. The voice switch allows the user to select from three EQ settings for a full range, mid forward, and upper mid voicing. This circuit is true to the original MKII with the voice switch set to “full“ and the gain control at max.

High gain - a hybrid trio of Mullard, New Market, and Texas Instruments germanium transistors tuned to deliver a more aggressive voicing. This version delivers a range of explosive and classic fuzz tones with plenty of singing sustain and fuzz on tap.
Equipped with a standard 9V DC jack. This product uses vintage PNP transistors which require an isolated supply. <10mA current draw.
